Ep. 130 - Philippians Series Ep. 1: Joy in the Chains
What would your letter sound like if you were writing it from prison? Complaints? Fear? Frustration? Anger?
Now imagine a letter overflowing with joy, gratitude, encouragement, and confidence in Christ. That’s Philippians.
In this episode, we’re kicking off a brand-new study through the book of Philippians and laying the foundation for everything we’ll discover along the way. We’ll answer the important questions: Who wrote Philippians? Who was it written to? Why was it written? When was it written? And what was happening in the lives of Paul and the believers at Philippi?
Paul wrote Philippians while imprisoned, yet his circumstances couldn’t steal his joy. Throughout this letter, we’ll discover the difference between temporary happiness and the deep, steady, unshakeable joy that comes from knowing Christ.
And perhaps one of the biggest questions we’ll ask in this episode is this: If Paul could rejoice in chains, what excuses do we have?
As we begin this journey through Philippians, we’ll also challenge ourselves to ask: Am I the kind of Christian who brings joy to the hearts of others when they think of me? Who do you thank God for when you remember them?
Let’s begin this study by choosing gratitude, encouraging others, and finding our joy—not in our circumstances, but in Christ.
